Exam Purpose

In addition to providing a method for evaluating medical genetics knowledge, the ABMGG ITE serves several purposes:

  • Identifies ABMGG trainees at risk for not succeeding on the ABMGG certification examination while still in training with time for additional programmatic and self-directed learning.
  • Targets didactics within a given program on areas where the trainees as a group are weak.
  • Provides national performance measurements, by which trainees can compare their scores.

Important Dates:

  • February 12 & 13, 2025 – ITE administration
    Please note the 2025 administration will only be offered in person.

Eligible Examinees:

Eligible test takes include residents and fellows currently enrolled in a training program in clinical genetics and genomics, clinical biochemical genetics, laboratory genetics and genomics, and the subspecialty of medical biochemical genetics.


Cost per examinee is $325.
