Call for Nominations: 2027 ABMGG Board of Directors

March 30, 2026

The ABMGG is seeking interested diplomates to serve on its Board of Directors. The new Directors may serve up to two consecutive 3-year terms, from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2032.

Nominations are open to diplomates in all specialties. Special consideration will be given to diplomates with experience in the following areas; however, all interested candidates are encouraged to apply:

  • Informatics
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Quality Improvement/Assurance/Control/Management
  • Cancer genetics

Responsibilities of ABMGG Directors

Service on the ABMGG Board of Directors involves a significant commitment of time and involvement in the Board’s efforts, including:

  • Full attendance at two in-person Board meetings each year.
  • Participation in bimonthly virtual Board meetings.
  • Service on at least one of the Board’s standing committees with attendance at several virtual meetings each year.
  • Contributions as an item writer and/or subject matter expert for assessments.

Directors participate in all board activities and have opportunities to serve in liaison roles with the ABMS, ACGME, ACMG, and other related organizations.

Requirements for Nominees

  • Must be a current ABMGG diplomate.
  • Must be actively participating and meeting requirements in the ABMGG Continuing Certification Program.
  • Should have at least five years of professional experience in their specialty.
  • Current or prior leadership of a medical genetics and genomics training program is preferred.
  • Experience as a volunteer with ABMGG activities is preferred.
  • Leadership experience in other medical genetics and genomics organizations is desirable.
  • May have served previously on the Board, but at least six years must have transpired since expiration of the prior term.

The ABMGG appreciates the benefits inherent in a diverse community of officers, directors, representatives, and committee members. To support such diversity, the ABMGG seeks individuals with varied career paths, perspectives, and backgrounds to include minorities and underrepresented voices.

Nomination Process

ABMGG diplomates are encouraged to nominate qualified diplomates. Self-nominations are also welcome.

The following documents are required and due by Friday, May 22, 2026, for all nominations:

  1. Completed Application Form
  2. Completed Nomination Support Form (only one) that includes a brief statement of support. This form must be submitted by an ABMGG diplomate supporting the nominee.

If you plan to nominate an ABMGG diplomate for consideration:

  1. Confirm that the person you are nominating is interested in being considered.
  2. Complete the Nomination Support Form.
  3. Ask the nominee to complete the Application.

All nominees will be notified of the outcome of their application by early fall.


Application

Candidates must complete the Application form and forward the following documents:

  1. A brief statement of interest and description of how your experience will enhance the work of the ABMGG (not to exceed 200 words).
  2. short biography (NIH Biosketch is acceptable) of no more than four pages.

Nomination Support Form

The online Nomination Support Form includes a brief statement of support, which must be submitted by an ABMGG diplomate in good standing other than the nominee.
