ABMGG Approves Modifications to Administration of Certifying Examinations

May 6, 2025

We are pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has approved important modifications to the administration of certifying exams, beginning with the 2025 administration.

  • Candidates for the certification exams will not be required to pass both general and specialty exams in the same testing cycle.
    • If a candidate passes the general exam but fails a specialty exam, only the specialty exam will need to be retaken the following test cycle (or vice versa).
  • A candidate may take the general and specialty examinations in different cycles.

Achieving ABMGG certification requires successfully passing BOTH the general exam and at least one specialty exam.

This policy is effective beginning with the August 2025 certifying examination administration and does not apply to any prior examination results.
